What is Distance Counseling?
Distance Counseling or Telemental Health is an alternative to face-to-face, in person counseling. Clients are counseled through secure HIPPA-protected telephone and video sessions.
Is Distance Counseling as effective as face-to-face?
For some people, telephone counseling and video counseling sessions are just as effective as face-to-face counseling.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of online or telephone counseling?
- Some of the advantages are: convenience, less expensive than face-to-face counseling, and comfort- some clients tend to be less inhibited.
- Some disadvantages: technical problems, protecting PHI (personal health information) may be a challenge; clients may struggle with feeling distant.
Who would not be suited for Distance Counseling?
- Clients that need emergency care, such as those who pose a threat to themselves or others.
- Clients who do not have a computer with internet access.
Do you work with children?
No, I only treat adults.
Can you provide distance counseling in any state?
No. I can only provide counseling in the state in which I am licensed. Currently, I can only provide distance counseling in the state of Georgia.
What do I need for telephone and video conference counseling?
A computer with internet access and a web camera.
What are your fees?
- Individual session (50 minutes) $70
- Couples (50 minute session) $125
